Iran monitoring aircraft carriers through reconnaissance and stealth drones

TEHRAN – The Iranian Navy commander has said the Islamic Republic’s military is monitoring the movements of foreign aircraft carriers in the region through its sophisticated unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

“Our reconnaissance and stealth drones honorably and powerfully fly over extra-regional aircraft carriers and monitor them without their knowledge,” Rear Admiral Shahram Irani told national TV on Friday evening.

The aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower and its carrier strike group transited the Strait of Hormuz on Nov. 26 and entered the Persian Gulf, after arriving in the waters of West Asia earlier this month amid the war between Israel and Hamas.

On Nov. 28, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) released drone footage monitoring the aircraft carrier and its strike group as it sailed through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group arrived in the Middle East on Nov. 4. The group includes the cruiser USS Philippine Sea and the destroyers USS Mason and USS Gravely.
